Rainy Day in Milwaukee

A stormy service stop that somehow became one of our favorite nights on the road.

The forecast said light rain.

The forecast lied.

By 2 PM the streets were soaked, our side panels were dripping, and half the team was trying to keep napkins from flying across the parking lot. We considered shutting down early. Nobody wanted to stand outside in freezing rain for tacos.

Then people started showing up anyway.

One umbrella became five. Five became a line wrapping around the block. Someone dragged over portable speakers from a nearby shop and suddenly the entire night shifted. The rain stopped feeling like a problem and started feeling like part of the atmosphere.

Orders came out faster than expected. Windows fogged up from the grill heat. Somebody handed us hot coffee from the café next door. A couple stood under the awning eating fries like it was the best meal they’d had all month.

That’s the thing about traveling with a food truck — you can’t fully predict which nights become memorable.

It’s rarely the perfectly planned events.

Usually it’s the unexpected ones. The loud ones. The messy ones. The nights where everything almost goes wrong but somehow works anyway.

Milwaukee gave us one of those nights.

We left soaked, exhausted, and smelling like smoke and fryer oil. Perfect evening.
